Announcement

We are pleased to invite you for the 1st Costa Rican Summer School on Plasma Physics to be held in San Carlos, Costa Rica on 20-24 January 2014.
 

The major objective of this summer school is to cover a broad range of the topics in plasma physics, gradually presented from the very basics towards the more advanced theoretical topics, followed by applications and reviews of the state-of-art. The contents fit a convenient and intensive 5 working days schedule. It is intended for undergraduate and graduate students alike. The lectures will be conducted by highly recognized scholars in the field.

School venue

The LAWPP School venue will be the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica located in San Carlos, Costa Rica.

 

The Plasma School will take place in San Carlos. This city is located in Alajuela, Costa Rica. San Carlos is one of the biggest touristic venues in Costa Rica. San Carlos has a sophisticated tourist infrastructure with countless hotels, restaurants and other tourist attractions.

 

The area's principal economic activities include the production of oranges, yuca, pineapple, sugar cane, beef and dairy products. More than 50% of the total dairy production in Costa Rica comes from San Carlos. The weather pattern for the region is tropical, with high humidity.

The main scope of the LAWPP School on Plasma Physics is to provide a general view on some topics in plasma physics in order to achieve a better starting point for the main conference LAWPP 2014. At the end of the School, each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
 

Accommodation

The people attending the activities of the School on Plasma Physics will be provided of accommodation in the student residence buildings  within the university campus. They include a bed, bathrooms, kitchen, a common area to interact with the other attendees and a personal area to work. The number of spaces in the residences is 325.
 

In case the attendee wants another option of accommodation several hotels in the area are available too.
Some hotels are:

  • Árbol Dorado: 14 rooms, includes full bed and twin bed, cable TV, air conditioning, private bathroom with hot water and WI-FI.

  • Cabinas Nelson: includes internet, cable, TV, hot water and air conditioning.

  • Hotel Tilajari: includes tennis court, gym and restaurant.
