The Viewpoint at Ujarrás is located 2 kilometers east from the Church at the city of Paraíso, in Cartago. This touristic destination has wide open areas, recreational areas for BBQ and eating, parking and security. One of the main reasons to visit this place is that from there you can see the Ujarrás Ruins and enjoy an amazing view of the valley.

After 30 minutes at the viewpoint, we will go to the Ujarrás Ruins, which were declared as National Monument on December 11, 1985.

These Ruins of a Colonial Church are located one kilometer north-west from Cachí Lake. This ancient building made out of "calicanto" (stone and mortar) is all that is left from the first church ever built in Costa Rica during the XVII century, approximately between 1686 and 1693. This is of great interest for tourists.

Since the beginning, the Church became an important center for pilgrimage.

After 30 minutes at Ujarrás Ruins, we will continue our trip towards the Viewpoint at Cachí Dam. From this place, you can admire the dam of the Cachí Hydroelectric Project, which is the second dam at Reventazón River. This plant became a part of the National Electrical System during the 60’s. Due to its location, its water usage includes turbined water from Río Macho river (cascade system) besides water from the Reventazón River, El Navarro river and Agua Caliente river.

After admiring the dam for 10 minutes, we will travel to La Casona del Cafetal Restaurant, with a colonial architecture surrounded by beautiful gardens and traditional coffee plantations that complement the view of the spectacular lake. There we will offer you a coffee break. After staying approximately 2 hours at the restaurant, we will return to the Crowne Plaza Corobicí Hotel.

Thursday: Conference Dinner

A memorable conference dinner will be arranged at the Hotel Crowne Plaza Corobici. Conference Dinner will be held on January 30, 2014, at 20:00. We will have the presentation of the dance group “Tierra y Cosecha” from the  Costa Rica Institute of Technology. The folkloric company, Tierra y Cosecha, in its trajectory, has been able to recover traditions and customs of Costa Rica, and its sole purpose has been to show and share these inside and outside Costa Rica. During the dinner we will have a posthumous tribute to the professional career of Dr. Malcolm G. Haines in the Plasma Physics field.

Dancing will follow dinner and the celebration will continue until 12 m.d.
